Review of Prima Donna Spring Summer Collection 2010

After the rich reds and purples that dominate the autumn winter collections of all the major designers it's interesting to see the development for the spring summer. Spring summer is always a much more challenging season to design for as so many of us stick to our smooth cups in nudes and white to wear under those strappy tops and white T shirts.

However spring summer isn't really an accurate description as the first deliveries arrive on our doorstep in January with a little final flourish of opulence in time for Valentine's day and the dying winter days. Prima Donna has produced the stunning Babel for this time of year and made it available in a seductive black with deep navy detailing and a pretty peach colour to give the story an extended life as the days begin to get longer. The Babel has a delicate cobweb design which is reminiscent of the Marie Jo Evita which was so popular a few years ago. The story is the only one for this season that has a suspender belt as part of the range. It also has a very glamorous basque with suspenders and detachable shoulder straps. The other ornate story that has a black collection is the Constantinople. This will be undoubtedly be hugely popular especially in the natural colouring. It is a natural successor to favourites such as the Ginza, Champs Elysees and Samui.

The range of simple elegant lingerie for the summer has been extended, as well as a re-colouring of the Menton in a stunning navy blue, Prima Donna has introduced a new continuity story called Perle. Perle takes popular shapes and has introduced them in larger sizes. At last there is a plunge style available in a G cup. The Perle has smooth cups with gentle padding in a full cup, plunge and strapless. There are a wide range of briefs also available, so whether you are a shorts or brief lover there is something to you. It is also the first time control briefs have been included in a continuity collection. Plums Lingerie hasn't had their delivery of these yet so it will be interesting to see how much suck in power they really have. It will have to be substantial to compete with the Miracle Suit range.

If you want to have something a little more decadent to add to your lingerie drawer both the Kensington and Edoras have been re-coloured for the summer. Both these stories have been sell outs and the hot pink Kensington adds a bit of heat to the pretty muted pastels while the aqua blue Edoras has a cool elegance. Blue bras seem to be a tricky sell in comparison to the sure fire purples and pinks so it is interesting that Prima Donna has introduce a sky blue in the Alexandrie story.

There no doubt that the Alexandrie is stunningly pretty and the embellished straps are perfect for a subtle little flash under a strappy top. I would expect that white will be the clear winner in the summer followed by the blue. As the delivery date for this collection is in February Plums Lingerie has opted for the blue to add a flash of freshness to the drawers. It can be easy to stick with white in summer but where's the fun in that?

This collection is muted in comparison to the strong colours from the Autumn Winter but the contrast will be refreshing to the loyal Prima Donna customer and the whole seasons collection is very commercial. There isn't one range that I don't think would not be taken up. It appears that some of the riskier colourings have found their home in the new Prima Donna Twist range. It is really refreshing to see the new Prima Donna collections arrive. It means the longest darkest days of winter are behind us and the summer is on it's way.
